
I was employed to take a look at the existing website and the medias existing to work out what could be done better, what could save money and how to increase reach. I looked at what was done right – and then had a lengthy discussion by cross-comparing and seeing what wasn’t being utilised.
This is a very sensitive business so I went by my adage of triple check and use only what has permission and what I can create from existing material.
It was then decided that we would use a parked domain as a secondary site – long-term view is we also update the original site, but at the moment, it is required as a firm base. But will be fully edited, I simply corrected the links and readability on home page.
For this site, we wanted it cleaner, easy to understand, simple – yet effective. I found the cheapest website host (I said that the bells and whistles are not needed for this type of site and identified where they could cut costs with existing site and I managed to achieve a further discount for their new site) – I then looked at google and highlighted points of which they could get their business listed further, and how using other medias could create an update web that pushes them higher on the google rankings.
This company is quite old school – it was important to show how simple it could be – and I then created multiple medias to use as a form of advertising.
We decided the goal was not “likes” or “shares” – this type of business is very specific, the main goal was discoverability for people who may only have the basics in social media, or may not be on them. Also, their clientele may not be the most computer savvy but wants the best in the industry. Or they do not want to read much, they just want the points – clear and concise.
So we came up with a working plan of updating regularly, creating medias, cross-posting and easy communication. I double-check before anything is posted and they feed ideas and updates to me to simplify their workload. Due to the fact that because of their specialised areas, social media is not used in-house, so I leveraged mine to be able to quickly be able to do these updates as required from any location.
As a result, we have seen a climb in the google rankings and there has been much more interaction and contacts.
